Toolkit
The tools on this page are designed to guide discussions around ‘archives’ and ‘archiving’ in the specific context of architectural education. They will be of wider use to historians, geographers, anthropologists and others working on built environments, but they have been developed and tested in direct dialogue with architectural students and practitioners in Pakistan.
All of these resources are free to use and reproduce for non-commercial purposes. Whether or not you decide to follow the dedicated ‘Lesson Plan’, we would recommend that you begin by consulting the document titled ‘Archiving Architecture’, since it lays out the framework and central concepts for this project.
The remaining ‘Start with…’ Question Sheets contain guidelines for preparing an archival record. They provide a series of questions to consider when assembling a record, based on the archivist’s starting point: a particular architect, building, builder, place, user or object.
The ArchitecturalArchives.pk team warmly welcomes submissions for our online, collaborative archive. Download a Template Record Sheet, consult the relevant Question Sheet, create your record and share it with us. You can email it to our team or tag our account on Instagram with any visual/textual material you have gathered. Please note that by sharing material with us, you consent to having it reproduced on the ArchitecturalArchives.pk website and/or related social media.
If you would like to feedback on our teaching tools, or have ideas about how to develop these resources, please get in touch.
Urdu versions of all documents will be available soon.
